Our History

Since 1946,

The Hunt Store has been at the heart of the Hunt community since 1946. What began as a small Hill Country general store serving local families, ranchers, campers, and travelers quickly became much more than a place to buy groceries and fuel—it became the gathering place for generations of Texans.

Located at the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Guadalupe River, The Hunt Store has welcomed summer campers, river-goers, hunters, and locals for nearly 80 years. Over the decades, it has served as a grocery store, gas station, post office, community meeting place, and emergency hub, creating countless memories for families who return year after year.

The story of The Hunt Store is deeply connected to the history of Hunt itself. The town was established in the early 1900s and named after Robert Finley Hunt, whose land helped shape the community that grew around the Guadalupe River. As Hunt became a beloved destination in the Texas Hill Country, The Store became its front porch—a place where neighbors gathered over coffee, campers stopped for burgers, and visitors experienced the hospitality that makes Hunt special.

Today, The Hunt Store proudly carries on that tradition, serving as a gathering place where old memories are celebrated and new ones are made. Through changing times, one thing has remained the same: The Hunt Store is, and always has been, the heart of Hunt.
